MicroStrategy Adds 397 Bitcoin as Acquisition Rate Declines
MicroStrategy acquired an additional 397 Bitcoin, valued at approximately $45.6 million, last week. The transaction highlights the company's ongoing commitment to expanding its Bitcoin holdings, though the pace of accumulation continues to moderate in 2025.
Recent Purchases Highlight Slower Growth
According to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission and subsequent public disclosures, MicroStrategy completed the latest purchase at an average price of $114,771 per Bitcoin. This action increased the company's total holdings to 641,205 BTC, acquired for a cumulative $47.49 billion at an average price of $74,047 per coin. Bitcoin holdings have delivered a year-to-date yield of 26.1% for the firm.
The latest acquisition follows a similar move the previous week, when MicroStrategy bought 390 Bitcoin for $43.3 million. These consecutive purchases represent some of the smallest monthly sums acquired by the company in recent years. Compared to periods before October 2024, MicroStrategy's buying pace has slowed significantly, with recent monthly totals marking a 78% decrease from peak periods in 2024.
Implications for Bitcoin Market Demand
Market analysts, including those at CryptoQuant, note that MicroStrategy and US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have played key roles in driving demand throughout 2025. The deceleration in MicroStrategy's purchases, alongside reduced inflows to spot Bitcoin ETFs, raises questions about Bitcoin's potential for price recovery.
- MicroStrategy and spot ETFs have led new Bitcoin purchases.
- Both channels now show weaker accumulation trends.
- Analysts suggest that renewed large-scale buying from these entities would be needed to bolster market momentum.
"Demand is now driven mostly by ETFs and MicroStrategy, both slowing buys recently. If these two channels recover, market momentum likely returns," said Ki Young Ju, founder and CEO of CryptoQuant.
Looking Ahead
MicroStrategy's ongoing Bitcoin strategy remains under market scrutiny as its acquisition pace cools. Both investors and analysts continue to watch institutional activity for signs that could influence future Bitcoin price trends.
