Metaplanet Increases Bitcoin Holdings to Over 30,800 BTC

Tokyo-listed investment company Metaplanet has acquired an additional 5,268 Bitcoin, bringing its total BTC holdings to 30,823. The recent purchase, valued at approximately $600 million, pushed Metaplanet into the fourth position among public companies holding Bitcoin, based on data from BitcoinTreasuries.NET.

Latest Transaction Details

Metaplanets latest buy was executed at an average price of 17.39 million Japanese yen per Bitcoin (around $116,000), totaling about $600 million. This raises the firms total Bitcoin position to a value of roughly $3.6 billion. The companys average acquisition price stands at $108,000 per Bitcoin.

Impact on Corporate Rankings

With this addition, Metaplanet overtook the Bitcoin Standard Treasury Company in total corporate Bitcoin holdings. According to BitcoinTreasuries.NET, the companys Bitcoin strategy has produced an unrealized profit above 7.5% since its adoption.

Strategic Accumulation and Metrics

Metaplanet began adding Bitcoin to its balance sheet in April 2024 and has since accelerated its accumulation rate. The companys BTC Yield, a metric tracking the change in the ratio of total Bitcoin held to fully diluted shares, peaked at 309.8% in late 2024. This meant that each share was backed by more than three times the Bitcoin exposure compared to when Metaplanet started its strategy. By 2025, BTC Yield stabilized at 33%, indicating a slowdown in per-share BTC growth despite ongoing acquisition.

Broader Market Context

Public companies collectively hold over 1 million Bitcoin, worth approximately $116 billion. This equates to about 4.7% of Bitcoins total supply. In total, including corporate treasuries, ETFs, governments, and exchanges, entities control around 3.8 million Bitcoin, representing $442 billion in value.

Other cryptocurrencies have also seen adoption in corporate treasuries. Ethereum-based entities, including ETFs and reserve holders, currently manage 12.14 million ETH worth $52 billion. Solana-focused treasuries hold 20.92 million SOL, valued at about $4.55 billion, according to sector-specific data trackers.
