Samsung Wallet Enables Direct Crypto Purchases for Galaxy Users
Samsung has expanded its collaboration with crypto exchange Coinbase to allow U.S. Galaxy smartphone users to buy digital assets directly through Samsung Wallet. The new integration introduces Samsung Pay as a payment method for Coinbase customers, making it easier for millions of users to access cryptocurrencies.
Expanded Access and New Features
The integration, first announced in July, is expected to reach more than 75 million Galaxy owners in the United States. An international rollout is planned for the coming months, according to both companies. Drew Blackard, senior vice president of mobile product management at Samsung Electronics America, stated, Samsung Wallet is a trusted tool to millions of Galaxy users, and we're continually working to find creative ways to enhance the experience with added functionality.
Coinbase One Trial for Galaxy Owners
As part of the rollout, eligible Galaxy users will gain limited-time access to Coinbase One. This subscription service waives certain trading fees and provides enhanced staking rewards, offering additional value to Samsung users trying the platform for the first time.
Broader Wallet Capabilities
The update places cryptocurrencies alongside payments, identification cards, car keys, and membership programs already supported within Samsung Wallet. The move strengthens Samsungs appeal to users seeking a comprehensive digital finance solution.
Market Impact and Competition
For Coinbase, this partnership introduces a new distribution avenue as major crypto exchanges in the U.S. compete to attract retail traders. Recently, Coinbase reported its slowest revenue growth in several years, increasing just 3%. By comparison, competitors like Kraken and Robinhood registered stronger growth over the same period.
- Coinbase shares were trading near $373, up almost 130% year-over-year.
The integration adds to the ongoing trend of fintech and crypto services blending with mainstream consumer technology, providing users with more direct and convenient access to digital assets.
