Ripple Expands Footprint with BBVA Deal in Spain

Ripple, the company behind the XRP cryptocurrency, has signed an agreement with BBVA to provide the technology for the bank's new digital asset custody and trading services. This partnership will enable BBVA to offer its retail clients in Spain access to cryptocurrencies, including XRP and ether (ETH).

New Custody and Trading Options for Spanish Clients

Under the agreement, BBVA will use Ripple's digital asset infrastructure to support its latest cryptocurrency services. Until now, both companies had collaborated on pilot projects aimed at enabling real-time international transfers. This initiative marks BBVA's first move into digital asset services for its retail customers.

Impact of European Crypto Regulation

Cassie Craddock, Ripple's Managing Director for Europe, stated that the implementation of the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation in the European Union is prompting banks to respond to growing demand for digital asset services. She noted that, "Now that regulation is established across Europe, banks in the region are encouraged to launch digital asset offerings their customers are asking for."

Ripple's Growth and Market Impact

The new partnership reflects Ripple's continued international expansion. While the agreement may enhance XRP's visibility and the company's reputation, it is one of several factors that could influence the asset's market performance. XRP is currently one of the leading cryptocurrencies by market value, and analysts foresee potential for further gains in the ongoing market cycle.
