Prediction Market Leaders Pursue Fresh Funding at Record Valuations
Prediction market platforms Polymarket and Kalshi are reportedly in talks to secure new funding at sharply increased valuations. According to The Information, citing anonymous sources, Polymarket may raise capital at a $9 billion valuation, while Kalshi is considering an offer at $5 billion. This development signals heightened investor enthusiasm in the rapidly expanding crypto prediction market sector.
Significant Jumps in Market Valuations
Polymarkets potential $9 billion valuation would reflect a substantial leap. The platform was last valued at $1 billion during a funding round earlier this year. At least one reported term sheet valued Polymarket as high as $10 billion, although no deal has yet been confirmed. Kalshis possible $5 billion valuation is also notable, more than doubling its last funding round in recent months.
Platform Growth and Activity
Both platforms have recorded significant trading volume. In August, Polymarket reported $1 billion in volume, slightly outpacing Kalshis $875 million. User interest has been bolstered by the ability to wager on high-profile events including U.S. elections and NFL games.
Operational Differences and Expansion
- Kalshi operates as a regulated entity under the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in the United States. It requires dollar deposits, implements standard KYC procedures, and emphasizes regulatory compliance.
- Polymarket, by contrast, uses USDC for settlements and offers pseudonymous trading, broadening accessibility for international users. The company is expected to relaunch its platform in the U.S. soon.
Major investors have backed both platforms: Polymarkets investors include Founders Fund, while Kalshi counts Sequoia Capital among its backers.
Sector-Wide Momentum
Investor activity is intensifying across the prediction market landscape. Competitors such as Crypto.com and Underdog operate sports-focused prediction platforms in various U.S. states. Coinbase is reportedly building its own platform, while others partner with established companiesKalshi with Robinhood and Polymarket as an official partner elsewhere.
According to The Block Data, prediction market companies raised more than $216 million across 11 deals in 2025, significantly higher than the $80 million raised in 2024 and $60 million in 2021. The surge reflects broader growth and mainstream adoption within the sector.
