Market Watch

Hyperliquid Surpasses $320 Billion in Monthly Trading Volume

Hyperliquid, a leading decentralized exchange for perpetual futures, recorded its highest monthly trading volume to date in July, approaching $320 billion. This milestone represents a 47% increase from Junes $216 billion volume and a 28% jump over its previous peak of $248 billion in May. The exchange maintained its significant market presence, holding over 75% of the market share in the perpetual futures DEX sector during July.

Binance Remains Dominant in Broader Perps Market

While Hyperliquids growth is notable, Binance continued to outpace decentralized platforms in the perpetual futures landscape. In July, Binance processed approximately $2.59 trillion in perps trading volume, a 35% month-over-month increase. Hyperliquids portion of perps volume compared to Binance reached a new high of 11.89% in July, underscoring its prominence in the decentralized market, though Binance maintains its leading role across both centralized and decentralized segments.

Drift on Solana Marks Significant Growth

Competing platforms also saw notable changes. Drift, a decentralized exchange for perps built on the Solana blockchain, experienced a 336% increase in trading volume, exceeding $14.8 billion in July. This surge followed Drifts updated incentive structure for its BTC-PERP market at the end of June, which encouraged higher trading activity in subsequent weeks.

Overall DEX-to-CEX Ratio Holds Steady

Despite Hyperliquids record volume and Drifts rapid growth, the overall market share of decentralized platforms relative to centralized exchanges showed little change. The DEX-to-CEX perps volume ratio reached 7.77% in July, essentially flat compared to 7.78% in June. This suggests continued dominance by centralized platforms, even as decentralized alternatives expand their reach.

  • Hyperliquid set a new record with nearly $320 billion traded in July.
  • The platform retained more than 75% share among perps DEXs.
  • Drift's incentive program drove a 336% increase in trading volume.
  • Binance remains the largest player in overall perps volume.
  • The ratio of decentralized to centralized perps trading volumes remained steady month-over-month.
