Federal Reserve Officials Back Pro-Crypto Policies at Industry Symposium

Top Federal Reserve officials voiced their support for a clear regulatory evolution and digital asset integration during the 2025 Blockchain Symposium in Wyoming. Their remarks outlined the central bank's growing acceptance of blockchain technology, smart contracts, and stablecoins, while calling for updated oversight frameworks.

Embracing Technological Change in Finance

Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller described blockchain as a technology-driven revolution in payments. He urged the financial industry not to fear innovation, stating, "There is nothing scary about this just because it occurs in the decentralized finance worldthis is simply new technology to transfer objects and record transactions." Waller emphasized the practical benefits of smart contracts and distributed ledgers in everyday business, highlighting their efficiency over traditional systems.

Waller provided a particularly positive outlook on stablecoins, arguing they could strengthen the US dollars international presence. "Stablecoins allow users in underbanked countries to conduct real-time, dollar-based transactions," he said, suggesting the technology could expand financial access globally.

Regulatory Shift and Framework Development

Vice Chair Michelle Bowman called for a proactive regulatory transformation, noting that historical approaches have been too conservative. She said it was time to actively embrace new technologies, including asset tokenization and blockchain, to improve payment and title transfer systems. Bowman confirmed that federal banking supervisors are already working on a comprehensive regulatory framework for stablecoins, aiming to provide clarity and foster innovation.

Market Response and Forward Outlook

The coordinated message from Waller and Bowman signals growing alignment among US regulators toward integrating digital assets within the national financial framework. Their shared goal of establishing clear rules for stablecoins and expanding supervisory methods appeared to resonate in the market. Following the statements on Wednesday, investors increased their exposure to major DeFi protocols. Notably, select tokens surged: one major DeFi coin gained 7.90%, while UNI climbed 6.63%.

The developments from the symposium highlight a notable shift in regulatory stance, with Federal Reserve leaders encouraging the adoption of digital innovations in payments and asset management.
