eToro Launches in the U.S., Aiming to Compete With Leading Crypto Platforms
Israeli-based trading platform eToro, valued at over $1 billion, has officially launched its crypto trading services in the United States. The company, already popular across Europe, is looking to challenge established players such as Robinhood and Coinbase by leveraging its unique social trading features and broad asset offerings.
Social Trading Platform With Global Reach
eToro was founded in 2007 with the aim of making global markets accessible and transparent. CEO Yoni Assia describes the company as the worlds largest social trading network, with more than 11 million users from over 140 countries. The platform enables users to trade a variety of assetsincluding stocks, commodities, indices, currencies, and cryptocurrenciesinside a network that displays users trading activity and performance to others. Its patented copy trading system allows users to automatically mirror the trades of top performers.
U.S. Expansion and Product Offering
eToro opened U.S. operations three months ago and is now active in 42 states, focusing initially on crypto trading. Users can access 14 leading cryptocurrencies, utilize demo accounts with virtual funds, and participate in copy portfolios. Plans are in place to launch stock trading for U.S. users in the near future, aligning the American offering with eToro's international services.
eToroX: Dedicated Crypto Exchange and New Stablecoins
The firm also introduced eToroX, a crypto asset exchange that allows users to deposit and withdraw crypto, with fiat support forthcoming. eToroX offers a range of stablecoinsincluding EuroX, PoundX, and GoldXenabling trading pairs such as Bitcoin to precious metals or various fiat currencies. An order book aggregator technology connects to top global exchanges for liquidity, offering competitive spreads instead of explicit trading fees.
Marketing Strategy and User Focus
eToro is investing heavily in U.S. marketing to build brand recognition. The company relies on data-driven product optimization and personalized messaging to attract and retain users. Assia highlights that the platform is mobile-first and tailored to younger demographics, who increasingly view crypto as a generational asset class and demand transparent, interactive investing experiences.
Regulatory Compliance and Future Vision
Operating in multiple jurisdictions, eToro emphasizes compliance with local regulations. U.S. users, for instance, use a separate, locally regulated platform. eToros broader strategy includes preparing for the long-term tokenization of traditional assets and believes that blockchain technology will play a central role in future capital markets.
Looking Ahead
With a focus on simplicity, innovation, and ease of use, eToro aims to secure a substantial share of the U.S. market by catering to investors interested in both traditional and crypto assets. The company's social trading features and copy trader program will soon be available to American users, further differentiating eToro in a crowded market.
