Traders Pivot Away from Broad Altcoin Rallies, Says Bitget COO

The crypto market may not see a widespread altcoin rally, according to Vugar Usi Zade, Chief Operating Officer at crypto exchange Bitget. Speaking at Token2049 in Singapore, Usi Zade noted that traders are increasingly focused on sector-specific trends or solely on Bitcoin, and broader altseason conditions appear unlikely.

Shift in Market Behavior

Historically, altcoins have rallied alongside Bitcoin, especially during the phases known as "altseasons" when higher risk-to-reward ratios push many tokens beyond Bitcoin's gains. However, Usi Zade expressed doubt that such an environment will reappear soon. "I dont think there will be an altseason," he said, citing a lack of recent technological breakthroughs and major updates among altcoin projects.

According to Usi Zade, the market is moving "away from seasons" and now operates in shorter, more frequent cycles. He stated that Bitcoin is charting its own course and no longer influences the wider market as significantly as before. "Bitcoin decoupled not only from the stock market, but it also decoupled from altcoins," he explained.

Niche Sectors Drive Gains

Looking forward, Usi Zade suggested rallies will likely be sector-driven, not market-wide. For example, trends around real world assets (RWA) could see gains limited to those tokens, without uplifting the broader altcoin market.

He also highlighted a growing challenge for crypto projects: meeting rapid investor expectations. "Crypto investors think in short cycles, making it almost impossible for projects to sustain themselves in the long term," he said. Usi Zade compared this to traditional business models, where companies can take years to turn profits and investors have structured exit opportunities.

Market Advice Turning Conservative

Advice to newcomers has also shifted. Previously, many suggested holding both Bitcoin and Ether in major portfolios. Now, "Everyone will tell you just Bitcoin," Usi Zade said. He explained that Ether's recent price stability has left some investors with little motivation to buy ETH compared to Bitcoin, which has hit new highs over the past year.

Market Share Figures

Bitcoins market dominance currently stands at 58%, down from a peak of 65% over the past year. Ethers share is 12%, rebounding from lows of 7.3% in April, according to data from CoinMarketCap.

As trading strategies and investor outlooks evolve, the prospect for a broad-based altcoin rally appears uncertain, with sector-specific trends likely to dominate near-term market movements.
